Combat

Boss preparation

A preparation framework for the fights the game refuses to tutorialize — food first, gear second, pride last.

Short answer

Treat a boss like an expedition, not a duel. Cook a meal first, carry more food and water than you think you need, bring one ranged option and one way to block, and clear your escape route before you commit. The game rewards preparation more than reflexes.

The pre-boss checklist

  1. Cook and eat. Public reviews describe meals that raise maximum HP and SP. A boss attempt on an empty stomach is a wasted attempt.
  2. Fill water and pack meals. Do not rely on finding food in the arena.
  3. Bring a shield and a ranged option. The official screenshots show a sword, shield, bow and arrows in the same loadout.
  4. Repair or replace tools. A torch at 5% is not a light source.
  5. Clear the route back. Know how you will leave if the fight goes bad.
  6. Assign co-op jobs. One player draws attention, one deals ranged damage, one keeps the group fed and calls retreats.

Combat fundamentals

The screenshots show a stamina cost of 5 per use and separate health and stamina bars. That makes combat a resource management problem: blocking, sprinting and swinging all draw from the same pool. You do not need to win every exchange; you need to survive the ones you choose.

  • Fight in doorways and corridors. Wide rooms let enemies surround you.
  • Block, then disengage. A shield is for creating space, not for tanking forever.
  • Use ranged pulls. Arrows are a stack (x16 in the screenshot), so they are a limited resource, not a primary weapon.
  • Retreat to camp if the attempt is going badly. The dungeon does not reward pride.

The fish boss arena

One public review mentions a fish boss arena and notes that after the fight the arena is no longer covered in water but still cannot be built in. That is useful for two reasons: it confirms a fish boss exists, and it warns you not to plan a permanent camp inside the arena. Treat the arena as a fight space, not a base location.

If you keep losing

Do not throw attempts at the wall. Leave, cook, upgrade the arsenal, and come back with a better meal and a full pack. The game's progression is designed around returning stronger; a failed attempt that teaches you the arena layout is still progress.

If you are stuck on the prison route before the boss, read the prison key guide. If you are running out of food, read cooking.
