15 tips that save runs
Small habits, fewer wasted evenings. Preparation beats reflexes in this dungeon.
Short answer
Fifteen small habits that save runs. Most of them are about preparation and information, not combat skill.
Before you leave camp
- Update to 1.0.47.0. The backpack and item-loss fixes are the difference between a bug and a lost evening.
- Cook before you pack. A meal is a temporary upgrade; carry the upgrade, not just the ingredients.
- Fill water. Two clocks are running, not one.
- Pick one goal. “Find clay” beats “see what happens.”
- Leave one slot empty. The thing you came for needs somewhere to go.
In the dungeon
- Light first. Do not enter a dark room to save a torch and lose a run.
- Test the material, not the swing. Pickaxe for clay and goo, hammer for metal bars — and stone piles need something else. Do not assume the torch burns roots; one player report says it does not.
- Open shortcuts before loot. The return trip is where most runs fail.
- Fight in corridors. Wide rooms are for avoiding fights, not winning them.
- Do not fight everything. The dungeon is not a kill counter.
- Listen for the room. Silence, ringing and sound cues are part of the navigation.
- Turn back early. A safe return with half a pack beats a full pack and a death drop.
With friends
- Assign jobs. Scout, cook, tool-carrier. Three players doing the same job is three players competing for the same resources.
- Call your returns. “I am full” means “I am heading back,” not “I will keep going.”
- Share knowledge, not just loot. The game's co-op design is about figuring things out together; a called-out landmark is worth more than a spare sword.
The meta-tip
If you are stuck, stop trying to solve the room and solve the expedition. Do you have the right tool? The right meal? Enough water? A route back? Most “puzzles” in this game are supply problems wearing a stone mask.
Use the progress tracker to keep the milestones straight, and the meal timer so hunger does not become the boss.
