Key items lost: recovery checklist

A missing key item can look like a soft-lock. Check the pack, the death location and the lever before giving up.

Short answer

If a prison key or silver dagger disappears, you may be soft-locked. Patch 1.0.47.0 fixes several item-loss paths, so update first. Then check death packs, backpacks and the prison lever before assuming the save is dead.

What can go missing

Public reviews name the prison key and silver dagger as key items that can be lost if a backpack bug triggers. The same reviews describe soft-locks when those items disappear. These are community reports from the launch build.

Recovery checklist

  1. Update to 1.0.47.0. The patch fixed backpack/death-pack sinking, content swapping and partial-stack loss.
  2. Check the death pack. Look where you died, not only where you respawned.
  3. Check any backpack you left behind. Do not assume the item is gone until you have checked the bag.
  4. Return to the prison entrance. Confirm the lever is active; a missing lever interaction can look like a missing key.
  5. Restart the session once. Some co-op state bugs clear on reload.
  6. Report the exact sequence. Include patch, solo/co-op, host status and the last place you saw the item.

Prevention

  • Keep key items in your normal inventory, not the backpack.
  • Do not drop a key item to make room for loot.
  • Return to camp when your pack is full; a safe deposit beats a risky carry.
  • After a patch, re-check the prison lever and your key items before a long run.
